When you get a new cat, you may be thinking about all the fun you can have with them, but you may not be thinking about things like having your new kitten neutered. However, that's something that you need to think about because it's so important. If you are going to get your kitten neutered, you may have a lot of questions about the process.

Age

One of the things that you may be concerned about is how old your kitten should be before you can have them neutered. You may think that you need to wait until they are an adult, but that would be wrong. Your kitten can reach their sexual maturity when they hit four months old and can start reproducing at that point. Your kitten could father many litters before they are even a year old. Because of that, you want to get them neutered as soon as possible. You can get your cat neutered when they are 8 weeks old. So as soon as you get them, you can set up an appointment with your vet to get your kitten their shots and neutered. Your vet may want to wait a few weeks if your kitten is underweight, just so that they can go through the anesthesia process easier.

Pain Control

After your pet has been neutered, they are going to be in pain, after all, it was a surgical procedure. Your cat may act like they aren't in pain because cats don't like to show weakness. They may find an area to hide in so that you can't see them. Because they do hide their pain, you are going to need to make sure that you give them the pain medications that your vet prescribed for them. Just keep giving them the medicine on the schedule that the doctor gave you, whether or not you see signs of pain. That way the pain medication stays ahead of the pain and your cat isn't in pain because the medication has worn off. You may only need to do it for a couple of days, if you have a question, your vet can give you the best guidance on that.

If you are getting a new kitten, you want to make sure that you are doing everything you can to make sure that they are healthy. One way to do that is to make sure that you get them neutered
